The Tammy Faye Biopic
In the struggle between spirituality and money, it's a knockout win for greed in Showalter's delightfully tacky true story regarding the shamed televangelist and her felon spouse. The actor acts as the venal Jim, who states at the beginning, claiming divine approval for wealth. Both individuals set about monetising the American public's spiritual convictions. It's an extravaganza of tacky decor, bad makeup and insincerity, though Jessica Chastain achieves to depict the real-life figure with compassion. Tuesday 14 October, 1.15am, on Film4
